Perler Bead Beginner Pitfalls: Common Q&A
Before you blame the beads, check these traps. Learn the melt looks by eye, then fix with cooler, shorter, or more even passes.
Q1. Stuck on the board / stringy melt
Cause: temperature too high — beads weld to pegs or pull into threads when you lift hot.
Fix: wait until fully cool, then lift with tweezers. Same idea for stringing: cool down and shorten each iron pass.
Q2. Falls apart / will not hold
Lightly iron both faces and change the iron angle so every bead gets heat. You want fusion between neighbors, not just a glossy top skin.
Q3. Under-ironed vs muffled (闷豆)
Under-ironed: center holes still let light through — keep ironing in short passes.
Muffled: holes nearly closed and the surface looks like a solid sheet — heat was uneven or too strong; cool/dissipate, then touch up carefully if needed.
Also watch the collage: high-low beads (uneven pressure), blurred colors (over-heat haze), fully melted plastic sheet, or a woven imprint meaning your baking cloth/paper is dirty and due for a swap.
Q4. Edges always curl
Give the rim a bit more time, peel parchment only after cooling, and weight the borders while the piece sets.
Q5. Why mirror the pattern?
Ironing on the pegboard as placed: no mirror needed.
Lifting with masking tape and ironing the reverse: mirror the chart before you place beads so the finished face reads correctly.
