Perler Hang Hole Ironed Shut? Emergency Fixes + Perfect Hole Habits

You planned a clean jump-ring hole—then the iron sealed it. Overheat or parked presses let melt flow inward; edge beads without neighbors stick and deform first.

Tip work can tidy messy melt; to reopen a hang hole, punch or hot-pin after full cool.

Emergency rescue when the hang hole is gone

Smooth or retexture first—then decide whether to punch a new hole.

  • Soldering iron / heated knife tip fill: popular craft hack—about 350°C tip (or warm a craft knife on the iron), light scrape/dab to move melt into the messy hole zone. Tiny areas only; burn risk is real.
  • Matching bead patch: fuse a thin same-color scrap, trim, cover the sealed spot under baking cloth for a few light seconds; damp tissue under the back can limit bleed-through melt.
  • Towel / washcloth cover: large messes get a short high pass under textured cloth—hides flaws as fuzzy texture even if no hole remains.

Tip fill is for small edge fixes; big seals prefer patches or towel texture.

Keep the hang hole next time

Decide the hole on the pegboard—rescue after fuse is ten times harder.

  • Leave a gap or clear beads: omit beads at the hang point, or ring 3–5 clears so ironing leaves a natural opening.
  • Embed the jump ring: thread a matching bead on the ring, tape it in place, then iron so hardware fuses into the art.
  • Punch or hot pin after cool: 1.5 mm punch, or heat a pin/needle and push through for a round ready hole.
  • Cooler edge technique: drop heat a notch on rims, press with iron weight only, short lifts every few seconds—move as soon as the edge just softens.

Mark the hang cell on the pattern

Plan second-row-center hang points before you place beads. Clear printable grids plus reserved gaps make charms one-and-done.
