Hours of placing—then a crack as you lift. It looked fused, yet it shattered. Rarely “too much hand strength”: check bead quality, fuse depth, peel technique, and cool-down timing.

Root-cause checklist

Breaks are seldom one mistake—these often stack.

Brittle beads: cheap recycled plastic can snap like a biscuit. Proper fuse beads (often PE/EVA-type) bend with spring-back.
Under-fused: only the skin melts—stress opens seams. Common with one-sided ironing, low heat, or too-short passes.
Aggressive peel: ripping masking tape or towel cloth too fast / too vertical can tear the piece.
Timing: yanking while still floppy cracks structure. But methods differ—masking tape often wants fully cool; towel ironing often peels cleaner at half-warm.

How to avoid snaps next time

Fix buying, fuse depth, and peel angle.

Buy fuse-grade beads with clean cut faces; a light bend should spring back, not shatter.
Iron both sides with light moving pressure so the middle truly joins. For a strong flat, don’t leave a weak surface skin; if you want open holes, use the open-hole guide but keep bridges wide.
Peel flat: for tape release, don’t yank straight up—stay low to the desk, start a corner, then slide the sheet off.
Half-warm peel (towel method): don’t wait ice-cold; when just warm, peel with slightly damp fingertips / napkin for cleaner release.

Rescue if it already broke

Small cracks, clean snaps, and missing beads each have a fix.

Re-iron hairline cracks: tape the seam flat, parchment over, low-heat passes until the crack reflows.
Bead-safe glue: for full breaks, skip cyanoacrylate (502)—it can frost and attack beads. Use plastic/fuse-bead repair glue, thin coat, clamp ~30 minutes.
Patch beads: place matching colors in the gap and spot-fuse with a detail iron / soldering-style tip so the mend stays subtle.
